"'Providence' is a clever painting that has a sort of distortion which is not immediately noticed.  This is of the subject who is seated on the floor - which offers an unconventional way to depict a figure in space. The head turns into the entire rectangle shape of the painting and the legs are revealed crossed in the corner. The subject chooses to look at a chair and not sit on it, but rather on the floor.

This piece is painted with acrylic and colored pencil on a wooden panel, capturing a quiet afternoon in Providence, Rhode Island, as Francesca lounges on the floor."

Francesca Rosati

Francesca Rosati is an Italian-American painter and arts educator currently based in Vienna, Austria. Originally from Seattle, Washington, she previously balanced her time between teaching visual arts full-time and maintaining a dedicated studio practice. Working primarily in oil, acrylic, collage, and textile, Francesca is deeply connected to her roots in Europe; her work often references its antiquity and nature. Recently, she has focused on capturing the habitual moments and the overlooked objects of daily life. Capturing fleeting interactions on public transportation and observing items such as matchboxes and butter wrappers - the act of depicting these subjects aims to encourage 'a slow down' to appreciate the small details of daily life. Francesca earned her BFA in Painting (2019) and her Master of Arts in Teaching (2020) from the Rhode Island School of Design. During her studies, she participated in RISD's European Honors Program (2018) in Rome, Italy. She was awarded the Seebacher Prize for Fine Arts by the Austrian American Foundation in 2022 and took part in the Awakenings at Wick Artist Residency the same year. Most recently, she was a resident artist at GlogauAIR in Berlin, participating in both the on-site and online programs from October 2024 to March 2025.
